Neil Armstrong--1930-2012

Moon

Being tenants of this Earth
We gave praise to the spaciousness,
While filling in the barrenness
With mud-huts and sticks.

The challenge and promise
To advance gave sunlight new meaning:

Fields tilled; berries picked;
And, weather reports,
Occupied the Farmer’s thoughts.

For stretching into Spring seemed
An eyes blink of each great leap
Of an account books figures.

I often think of Armstrong’s hand;
The way in which it blocked-out
The Earth.

Space,
No longer free
Of individual destiny,
Seeks the smallness
Of things.

This is what the Sharecropper
Knew,
As those first steps
Were
Taken,

And,
Our deeds
Live on

In timeless, transcendent,

Space.

Small Beginnings

How does one wrap things up?

The Journey is just beginning,
And your entire life is but a moment.

Take small steps forward;
The past will not hinder your progress.

To stay stuck
Is not an option.

Your best day
Is today,
So let go.

Finis

My head feels
As light and airy
As a croissant.

It may be the blood pressure meds,
Maybe not.

If you reveal too much
Of yourself,
You bleed out
All of the mystery of Life.

It is the progative
Of the Poet
To be mistaken,
Or misunderstood.

Sometimes, endings
Are small beginnings.

There is always more
To say,
To write.

Responsibility

You have to get beyond
The inner scars.
The Past can be an enemy
Or a friend.
Forgiveness plays its role;
Guiding you forward.

Take off the coat
Of Childhood,
Because you’ve outgrown it.

Life will throw you
Many choices.

It is up to you
To walk the solid Path;
To live your life
And own it.

Affirmations

Some view each day as a struggle.
I see each day as a Blessing,

******

The Journey begins with one foot forward,
And two steps back.

******

The stars will guide you
Between sunset and sunrise.

******

Grab hold of that ring,
And move forward.

******

Take your time
When the way is clear both ways.

******

If the Path seems the longest.
Let it go. You’ll find the straight and narrow eventually.

******

The World loves those who are creative,
Because they find their power in Freedom.

******

The birds are calling to one another.
Hearing them reminds you of the first time.

******

Take some quiet time for yourself.
The rewards from this are many.

******

Contemplate a blade of grass.
It will make you calm, and set you free.

******

If you draw, like an Artist,
You’ll learn to see the truth in things.

******

Those who lean to the Left
Are sometimes Right.

******

Write from the Heart
And your words will fall, forever, into place.

******

Time can be a blessing or a curse.
It’s what you do with time that matters.

******

Find a still place
Where your thoughts can gather.

******

Think happy thoughts.
You’ll smile more often.

Advice # 2

Write from the heart,
Dear ones,
And you’ll never go wrong.

All of Life
Sits by the narrow path,
Blooming told
On starry nights.

Make of these things
Whatever you will;
The guide is there
With a will unstilled.

Hopefully, on your course,
My words will linger;
Pulling together
As thin as my fingers.

A Train

Tell them you’re a simple man
Each word brought forth
Without any shame.

The train chugs along
Outside my window;
The birds converse, always.

One thing leads
To another.

The simple man
Lays claims to riches.

The train
Moves on
No matter.

Experimental

Some say

It doesn’t matter what you write
As long as it makes some sort of sense.

 You must treat each word
As if it were a lover’s touch;
Grasping at an insight
Unseen.

 The World will be kind To your efforts.

The poet in you Speaks softly;

Tending the garden

 By lamp-light.

 The Moon is a Sliver-full Tonight.

 Say what you want:

 I’m in love.
